





Laureates of the Young Belgian Painters Award 2011Tue, 14/06/2011 - 15:50The international jury was impressed by the general quality of the projects of the 10 finalists, selected out of 275 submitted files. Crowet Award: Kelly Schacht Unanimously, the jury chose to award Kelly Schacht the Young Belgian Painters Award – Crowet (25.000 €), for her intense research on the relationship between the work of art, the space and the spectator, and how this relationship transforms itself in a performatic gaze. ING Award: Freek Wambacq The jury awarded Freek Wambacq the Young Belgian Painters Award – ING (12.500 €) for his creative process questioning the tradition of painting in an installation that involves history, memory, narratives, production of images, and for the specific pictorial aspect of his work. Langui Award: Paul Hendrikse and David Catherall After a long debate, the jury decided to share the Langui Award between Paul Hendrikse and David Catherall. They were equally seduced by the quality of display and contents of the different approaches of both artists. Hendrikse, for his more documentary/historic approach; Catherall for his conceptual way of dealing with reality. Centre for Fine Arts Award: Pieterjan Ginckels The jury awarded Pieterjan Ginckels the Centre for Fine Arts Award (12.500 €), for his ambitious installation, the result of a process involving different media such as sound, video and performance creating a physical experience. YOUNG BELGIAN PAINTERS AWARDTue, 17/05/2011 - 16:13The Young Belgian Painters Award has been one of the key events for young artists in Belgium since 1950. The competition aims to encourage and promote young talent. From the 275 submissions received, the international jury has selected ten promising artists who will present their most recent works at the Centre for Fine Arts all summer long: David Catherall, Michiel Ceulers, Pieterjan Ginckels, Manor Grunewald, Hou Chien Cheng, Paul Hendrikse, Kelly Schacht, Joris Van de Moortel, Cédric Van Turtelboom and Freek Wambacq. The awards ceremony takes place on 8 June at 6.30 pm. More info on the artists soon on this website Project Call Young Belgian Painters Award 2011Wed, 26/05/2010 - 16:18ULTIMATE application deadline : 29 November 2010 In 2011 the Jeune Peinture Belge, in collaboration with the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels, will be presenting a new edition of the Young Belgian Painters Award. This prestigious prize has become one of the major references for contemporary art in Belgium. The contest is open to artists from all disciplines who are between 18 and 35 years old on the 1st of January 2011, and who have Belgian nationality or have been living in Belgium for at least one year. An international jury of museum directors and curators will select the projects on the basis of a presentation file. The selected artists will be invited to exhibit their work at the Centre for Fine Arts from June 9 to September 11, 2011. During the opening, the jury will award 4 candidates, amongst which at least one will be a painter: - the “Crowet” Young Belgian Painters Award (€25,000) - the “Langui” Young Belgian Painters Award (€12,500) - the “Centre for Fine Arts” Young Belgian Painters Award (€12,500) - the “ING” Young Belgian Painters Award (€12,500) Applications must be sent to the Centre for Fine Arts by November 15, 2010.
